Multi-Genre Digital Sculptures, 2022, Max Mollison.

I was commissioned to create animated 3D projections for this year’s Whānau Mārama New Zealand International Film Festival. See the 3D artworks and the projections in situ at the Roxy Cinema below.

These 3D rotating sculptures embody six different film genres: Horror, Western, Romance, Science Fiction, Fantasy and Musical. Slow, spinning rocks provide an anchor for lush, digital bouquets to grow. Objects have become entangled in these mini-worlds, motifs from films that appear time and time again, products of their environment. These objects are often symbols of what it means to be human on our own spinning planet: fear, love, courage, joy, the wild and the unknown. They remind us of the power that film has to reach deep into our psyche, to transport us to new, evolving worlds.

Whānau Mārama New Zealand International Film Festival runs in Wellington from 4-14 August. Check out www.nziff.co.nz or follow instagram.com/nziff on Instagram.
